October 23 will mark the 35th anniversary of the bombing of the US Marines barracks in Beirut, Two hundred and forty-four US servicemen, mostly Marines died, as well s 57 French paratroopers.\
It was the deadliest terrorist attack against the US military, the explosive devise was the largest non-nuclear explosion in history. It was the heaviest loss of lives in a single day since the WWII battle of Iwo Jima.
